This one has a lot of memory updates and some fancy new particles. Get it!
Kouriku [Final Build] (win32 bin/src + editor) (zip)
Kouriku Version 0.8 (Win32 bin/src) (OpenGL) (Zip)
I have designed a few prototypes and as you can see from the picture, I tried to even make the entire game using only ASCII. It wasn't until I tried to make walls in my game that I actually threw in the towel and said, "Bah, nobody cares. I'll do the graphics version while testing the engine!".
The Original
A few years ago, I made a small ascii game called GemSlider. It was pretty cool learning about directly handling the pages for the monitor...but the days of anyone caring about that kind of optimization died out long ago. Still, the game is pretty cool but make sure to run it in fullscreen. Also WinXP likes to butcher this game, so be careful.
I have another fun program that prints out the world map. I never got to use it however, because
ASCII gaming died with windows XP. Then I thought about OpenGL. The rest is history.

KourikuGL Object Viewer
OpenGL graphics = teh fancy. It took me half a year to figure this stuff out, but I think it was worth it in the end. Anyway, this is a prototype for KourikuGL. All it does is displays all of the fancy (read: crappy) 3D artwork I made for the game.

KourikuGL ASCII Engine
Alrighty, so this is KourikuGL with ASCII graphics. It can handle EVERYTHING I wanted it to. There are switches to turn things on and off, things can change direction of motion, and there are specially designed blocks. It's got some nice new ideas which you will see when you download it. You can play any level from the 3D version on this engine.
I also have the level editor available in ASCII, in case you get creative.
