In Search of the Perfect Ham Sandwich

Let's face it; the two most important contributions to a ham sandwich are decided right here.
Only a fool would go for the deli meats section when in search of ham-sized truth. If you
want to get the real deal for your sandwich, you'll buy an entire ham. Again, I did not wish to
muddle the flavours of the sandwich (the clean sharp taste of the condiments would be easily
destroyed by a honey smoked roast, for example), so I bought the plainest ham I could find. You'll
still want a smoked ham, just be sure that the meat hasn't been cured with any powerful
outside flavours such as pine or honey.
I'll admit that the second choice was much more difficult. The two most popular choices for a ham
sandwich are cheddar and swiss. The cheddar has a sharp taste which will cut well through the condiments.
The swiss is powerful, but neutral. I found both in my minds as I imagine the classic hamwich.
The cheese I pick is meant to complement the ham, but in it's own way it is the Rosencrantz and Guildenstern to our smoked Hamlet.
Since I just mentioned two equally likeable characters, I suppose it would only be fair to use both. Therefore I
bought the cheddar AND the swiss for this perfect sandwich.
This is already starting to sound like a great hamwich experience!
