Summary

Rock is brought online and is considered a complete success by his two creators, Dr. Light and Dr. Wily. During Rock's physical training, an accident occurs which hospitalizes Dr. Wily. Fortunately, his recovery is a complete success. It is during this event that Rock chooses to take on a male gender role. Although delayed, the presentation of the project to a military committee will go ahead as planned.

Trivia

Kurzweil is the writer of Spiritual Machines, a book that predicts how artificial intelligence will evolve. Alice is an MIT artificial intelligence. Dr. Wily has rewritten the kernel used by Linux. Light and Wily refer to eachother by their middle names; no other characters refer to either one in the same manner.

World

This flashback refers to an old world, far before any of the global disasters which take place. The year is 2042. Although not yet made apparent, this takes place at a military airforce base in the United States.
