MEGAMAN X: THE SERIES SEASON TWO: Poles Apart EPISODE TWO: "Or So It Goes" Author's Note: Boo, this is the next episode...which I will refer to as episode #2 of season 2. So X2 :p Boy, lots of stuff on my mind lately. I have a videogame to make, some difficult courses to take, and a job for money to rake. In other words, heavy stuff. So, X is definitely at the bottom. Which is too bad, because I'm starting to get to the good part. I know, I know...I haven't been around for...what, years off and on? Who knows what I'm gonna do. This fic may finish, or it may not. But I decided to keep going at least for a little bit. Everybody is so interested in it...I've gone over my old fanmail (yeah, I have a folder stuffed with your guys' praise) and...well, what the heck. One more chapter can't hurt my schedule, right? In this one, X has doubts about pursuing a relationship with Anyi and Zero ends up having to listen to both sides of the story...unfortunately. This one is pretty light and takes place on the plane. __________________________ "To fear love is to fear life, and those who fear life are already three parts dead." -Bertrand Russell In a brilliant flash, the camera went off, taking Rock's picture. He smiled as instructed, looking directly at the lens. "X..? What's so funny?" a familiar voice trailing in the back of his mind. He felt the urge to throw up and sat up in his seat in a cold sweat. The man with short red hair recoiled a bit as X lurched in his seat. "Whoah, calm down!" Zero put his hand on X's shoulder. X looked around the room quickly; the brown walls were gone. The woman had disappeared, replaced by a television screen showing an ETA and a flight plan. He was sitting on a blue-grey couch in a small, but comfortable room. X breathed in the recycled air, trying to cool his systems. That's when he realized that the mechanical taste of the air reminded him of space travel. These were first-class quarters on a transport ship; he had seen them in the past. It was during the brief battle against the Colonel that he had his first experience in outer space. For some odd reason, the smell of the air reminded him of that. He relaxed a bit back into the couch, breathing heavily. He could feel his harddisks spinning faster than he ever thought possible. Whatever was happening to him involved a lot of access to mostly unused disk memory. Still, this was the first time it had ever felt so real. He could still feel the dull ache in his chest from where that robot master had punched his plating. "X...seriously, are you ok?" Zero looked at X straight in the eyes, looking for a sign of recognition. "..Yeah," X tried to shake off the chill running ever so slowly up his spine. "I think I had another flashback. Or...it was much too real this time." "They're getting stronger," Zero nodded. "I was afraid of that." X gave him a strange look. "How would you know?" "...I've studied Reploid systems enough to know what happens with repressed memories," Zero said in a flat tone. X felt that his friend was speaking from experience, but didn't want to pursue it further. He knew how uncomfortable Zero was with talking about himself. "But these aren't my memories...I thought it wouldn't get any worse," X trailed off, staring blankly at the bare white wall next to the television. "What's the last thing you remember this time?" Zero asked. This really hit X. He was on board a transport...how did he get here? Were they already on the scheduled flight to Venus? How long has it really been? X thought about what he last remembered. A dark room, softened with moonlight from a window. He was...kissing Anyi. The feeling of that moment came back to him in a rush. He stood up sharply from his seat and shook his head. He couldn't believe what he had done. "Well?" Zero stood up behind him. X could feel Zero's eyes staring at the back of his head. X turned around slowly. There was no way he would tell Zero what had happened between him and Anyi. He stared straight at Zero. "I..uh...was eating dinner at Anyi's house with her parents," X stuttered slightly. "That's about it, really." Zero let out a low whistle. He put a hand on his friend's shoulder. He looked almost sorry. "That really is terrible," Zero said with obvious sympathy. "To not even remember your first kiss..." X recoiled in surprise with widened eyes. "You...KNOW about that?" Zero raised an eyebrow, "Of course I do, you just told me about it before you blanked out a few seconds ago!" X's look of surprise gave way to a faint smile. Zero smiled with him. X closed his eyes and started laughing. The both of them started to chuckle uncontrollably. Zero sat back down in his chair, laughing wildly. The both of them simply couldn't stop, X leaned against the wall trying to keep from falling. "You, you thought, " Zero shouted between gasps of breath. "That...I could give you some advice!"
