Chapter 10: Damage [ | Taking Hits | Types of Damage | Types of Red Damage | Permanent Injuries | Armour & Penetration | ]
Permanent Scars
Just because you've recovered from Red damage doesn't mean that there aren't visible signs that they took place. Bad bruising could last
for a few weeks; even if your character has recovered from the penalties on that Red damage, it might still look as if it is there. Gashes
and other serious wounds could result in a fair bit of scarring, burns rarely heal properly if they were really bad, and other visual buildup
over time could affect the appearance of your character.
Whenever your character takes more than two points of Red damage to an area, consider writing down a possible change in appearance (ex. he has a long
stitched scar up the side of his left arm) if it didn't heal properly.
Permanent Injuries
If your character has received 4 points of Red damage to an area, he will have to deal with the possibility of permanent injuries. These are
injuries that stay with you for life and are very difficult to remove. Below are some examples; GMs will come up with their own if
your injury is more unique than anything listed here:
- The area is horribly scarred, giving you half Beauty if it is ever exposed.
- Because of the injury, your character has lost 1 point to two affected Primary Stats. Getting hit in the head could be -1 Int, -1 Fort. Taking
nerve damage in the arms could be -1 Strength, -1 Agility. It's the GM's choice.
- Your character has -20% to a Resist. Brain damage could be penalties to Primal Nature or Concentration. Bad legs could mean a penalty to Balance.
Bad lungs could mean a penalty to Resist Poison. Whatever it is, the penalty is permanent.
- The spot never did heal properly; taking a hit there means you can't use your PFb in the attack.
- Your character is -4 to all combat rolls because of chronic pain or the limitations placed by the injury.
- Your hands have been affected; any skill requiring manual dexterity is -2.
GMs, if you feel these permanent injuries are too harsh because the character's wound wasn't that terrible even if permanent, scale it down a bit.
